Disable Windows Media Player Automatic Updates
This feature allows you to disable or enable automatic updates in Windows Media Player.
Windows Media Player (WMP) is a standard media player and media library application developed by Microsoft that is used for playing audio, video and viewing images on computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
If a check mark is set, automatic updates in WMP are disabled. If a check mark is removed, automatic updates in WMP are enabled.
By default, automatic updates in WMP are enabled.
WMP periodically checks the Internet for newer versions or updates and lets you know that they are available. Some users prefer to stop WMP from doing this. For example, some people have limited internet and others want to update the applications manually. If you want to disable WMP from periodically checking for updates, you can do it using the "Disable Windows Media Player Automatic Updates" setting of the Red Button program.
Use this feature only if you know exactly what you are doing. Timely updating of the Windows operating system, like other software, is very important and necessary. Updates are provided to help in patching security flaws and improving stability. Even if you are not using the WMP, some components that run WMP are used by other programs on your computer.
