Speed Up Closing Unresponsive Applications

This feature allows you to force your computer to shut down more quickly.

When you shut down (sign out or restart) your system, Windows doesn’t shut down immediately. Instead, it gives running applications some time to close first. This is in order to clean up and save applications data before offering to close them. Including, if any application stops responding, Windows waits for a while and gives you a “force shut down” option, asking for your permission to close unresponsive applications (you can disable it). Using the “Speed Up Closing Unresponsive Applications” feature, you can reduce the time how long Windows waits before considering applications unresponsive.

Also, using this feature you can reduce the time how long Windows waits for processes to end after the click on the “End task” button in Task Manager. If this threshold is exceeded, the End Task dialog box appears, stating that the process did not respond.

You shouldn’t normally need to change this setting because it can lead to issues such as application being unable to save their data properly, as Windows kills them before they can do that. But it can be helpful if you’d like to force your computer to shut down more quickly.
