Disable NTFS Last Access Time

This tweak allows you to disable or enable updates to the Last Access Time stamp on files and directories when they are listed on an NTFS volume.

If a check mark is set, NTFS Last Access Time stamp updates are disabled. If a check mark is removed, NTFS Last Access Time stamp updates are enabled.

NTFS is the standard file system of modern Windows versions.

Windows can update the 'Last Access Time' stamp for every single file and folder when those items were accessed on an NTFS volume. On some (XP, 10, 11) versions of Windows this option is enabled by default, on others (Vista, 7) it is disabled. Disabling NTFS Last Access Time stamp updates improves the speed of file and directory access, but can affect some programs, such as Backup and Remote Storage, which rely on this feature. If you want to disable NTFS Last Access Time stamp updates, you can do it using the "Disable NTFS Last Access Time" setting of the Red Button program.
