Disable Windows Media Player Automatic Codec Downloads

This feature allows you to disable or enable automatic codec downloads in Windows Media Player.

Windows Media Player (WMP) is a standard media player and media library application developed by Microsoft that is used for playing audio, video and viewing images on computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

If a check mark is set, automatic codec downloads in WMP are disabled. If a check mark is removed, automatic codec downloads in WMP are enabled.

By default, automatic codec downloads in WMP are enabled.

WMP automatically downloads media codecs to play unsupported files. Some users prefer to stop WMP from doing this. For example, some people have limited internet and others find it annoying and unnecessarily resource-hogging especially if they seldom play unsupported media files on WMP. If you want to prevent WMP from downloading codecs automatically, you can do it using the "Disable Windows Media Player Automatic Codec Downloads" setting of the Red Button program.
