Disable NTFS Short Name Creation

This tweak allows you to disable or enable automatic creation of short file names on NTFS-formatted volumes.

If a check mark is set, automatic creation of short file names is disabled. If a check mark is removed, automatic creation of short file names is enabled.

By default, automatic creation of short file names is enabled.

NTFS is the standard file system of modern Windows versions.

NTFS can generate a short name in the 8.3 naming convention (8-character name, 3-character extension) for long file names and for file names that contain characters from the extended character set. If automatic creation of short file names is enabled, then files can have two names: the name that the user specifies and the short name that NTFS generates. Disabling automatic creation of short file names increases file performance, but can break some programs that cannot process long file names. If you want to disable automatic creation of short file names, you can do it using the "Disable NTFS Short Name Creation" setting of the Red Button program.
